Custom Liquid

A section that renders whatever code you put in it — Liquid, HTML, CSS or JavaScript. The escape hatch for anything the theme's other sections do not cover.

What to use it for

• An app's embed snippet that has no block of its own.
• A size chart or specification table.
• A tracking or verification tag that has to sit in the page body.
• A one-off layout for a campaign.

What not to use it for

Anything an existing section already does. Code pasted here is yours to maintain: it is not covered by theme updates, it is not checked when the theme changes, and it will not be styled to match if you restyle the store.

Reach for it when nothing else fits, not when something else nearly fits.

Settings

Liquid code takes the code. Full width lets it span the screen rather than sitting inside the page container.

Before you paste

Keep a copy elsewhere. Code lives in the section's settings, so removing the section deletes it. Keep anything non-trivial in a file of your own.

Test on a duplicate theme. A syntax error in Liquid can stop the page rendering. Duplicate the theme, paste there, preview, and only then move it across.

Check it on a phone. Custom markup does not inherit the theme's responsive behavior. A table that fits a desktop often forces the whole page to scroll sideways on a phone — wrap wide content in a container that scrolls on its own.

Where the block version lives

There is also a Custom Liquid block inside the product page and Featured product sections, for code that belongs among the product details rather than as a section of its own.
