Global sections
Global sections are the parts of the store that are not tied to one template. The header sits on every page; the cart drawer opens from anywhere; the page hero opens most inner templates.
They live in section groups rather than in a single template, which is why you edit them once and the change appears everywhere.
Where to find them
Open the theme editor and look at the left sidebar. Above the template's own sections you will find Header, and below it Footer and Overlay group. Any template you edit shows the same three.
| Group | Contains |
|---|---|
| Header | Announcement bar, Header |
| Footer | Footer |
| Overlay group | Quick view, Newsletter popup, Cart drawer, Search drawer |
Page hero is the exception — it belongs to the template rather than a group, but it opens so many templates and behaves so consistently across them that it is documented here.
The overlay group
The four sections in the overlay group have no visible position on the page. They are the panels and modals that open over it. There is nothing to place and no order to set — they simply need to exist for their behavior to work.
Two of them, the cart drawer and the search drawer, have no settings of their own at all. They take everything from theme settings.
